I (Dawn Marie Kangas) obtained a Masters of Arts degree in Psychology; specializing in Criminology from University of the Rockies. I have also obtained continuing education in the field of mental health counseling from Capella University and Northwest Nazarene University to increase my knowledge in the field of counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (License #: 8241742) with the State of Idaho.
I primarily use the Humanistic Approach, Cognitive, and Psychoanalytic counseling theories. My goal as a therapist is to provide clients with the skills to be true to themselves, while navigating difficult life occurrences. I as a counselor will challenge you to serve your individual values and meet your goals. I also draw my practices from Person-Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Mindfulness. As a counselor, I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and families. I am trained and specialize as an Early Serious Mental Illness (ESMI) counselor working with individuals who are within the first 2 years of psychosis and between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age. my approach is client centered and the focus is on the client's recovery. The program is tailored to support the client and family to meet their goals. I work with a multidisciplinary team to provide wrap around support for our client in the program. |
